Lighting System Upgrade
Lutron HomeWorks Illumination → HomeWorks QSX
Weston, MA
Prepared for the Weston Family — April 2026
Executive Summary
Thank you for the opportunity to evaluate your lighting control system. After a thorough on-site assessment, we have identified the root cause of the non-working lights and keypads throughout your home, and we are pleased to present our recommended solution.
The Problem
Your central processor (Lutron 8-Series H8P5) has failed. This single component coordinates all communication between wall keypads and lighting panels.
The Good News
Your dimming modules, wiring, and infrastructure are all intact and operational. The issue is isolated to the processor and communication pathway.
The Solution
Upgrade to Lutron HomeWorks QSX — the direct successor platform. Works with your existing wiring, adds modern capabilities.
What We Found
Your home is equipped with a Lutron HomeWorks Illumination system — a premium whole-house lighting control platform that was top-of-the-line when originally installed.
| Component | Details | Status |
|---|---|---|
| Central Processor | Lutron 8-Series (H8P5) with HWI-H48 Interface | Failed |
| Dimming Panels | 2x HWI-PNL-8 with RPM-4A & RPM-4E modules (64 zones) | Working |
| Breaker Panels | 2x HWBP-8D-15-120L3 (8 double-pole 15A breakers each) | Working |
| SeeTouch Keypads | 6-button keypads, bus-wired through LV enclosure | Non-Functional |
| Maestro Dimmers | Wall dimmers throughout home (wiring TBD) | Partial |
| LV Enclosure | HWI-LV32-120 (keypad bus wiring home runs) | Working |
Why a Simple Replacement Is Not Possible
The Lutron HomeWorks Illumination platform has reached end-of-life status. Lutron no longer manufactures the 8-Series processor, replacement units are unavailable, and software support has been discontinued. Lutron has designed a clear upgrade path to their current flagship: HomeWorks QSX.
The Upgrade: HomeWorks QSX
HomeWorks QSX is Lutron's flagship whole-home lighting and shade control platform. It works with your existing wiring infrastructure, minimizing disruption while adding powerful new capabilities.

Project Timeline
Your Lights Will Not Be Down for 8 Weeks
The majority of this timeline covers off-site preparation: design, ordering, and programming. Your home’s lighting system will only be affected during the on-site installation phase in Week 7 — approximately 3–4 days. Before and after that week, your existing lights function as they do today.
Week 1
Site Survey & Design
Detailed site survey, final device count, keypad engraving design session with homeowner, shade verification. Equipment ordered at end of week — Lutron QSX products typically have 4–6 week lead times.
Weeks 2–6
Equipment Lead Time & Off-Site Programming
While waiting for equipment delivery, QSX database is built in Lutron Designer software. All zones, scenes, and keypad assignments are programmed and tested off-site. No work at your home during this phase.
Week 7
On-Site Installation
3–4 days on-site: panel conversion, processor installation, keypad replacement, dimmer/switch installation. This is the only week your lighting system is affected. Existing wall switches continue working during this phase where possible.
Week 8
Commissioning & Training
Full system commissioning, scene refinement, app setup, and personalized walkthrough for your family. Fine-tuning of lighting levels and scene assignments to your preferences.
Estimated Investment
Pricing will be finalized after the detailed site survey and final device count.
All pricing and quantities will be confirmed after the detailed site survey.
Next Steps
If you would like to proceed, the next step is scheduling a detailed site survey. During this visit, we will perform a complete device count, verify lamp types, design your keypad layouts together, and provide a final fixed-price proposal.
